Bisi Bele Bath- Sambhar Sadham,

Sambhar sadam as the bisi bele bath is called makes for a wholesome food in itself. Dal and rice with vegetables along with spices delights up the lunch.

Ingredients:-
Vegetables-------------- Small Onions (chinna vengayam), White pumpkin, yellow pumpkin, drumstick, radish, carrot, beans, brinjal.
Rice
Tuvar dal (1/2 of quantity of rice)
Tamarind water
Coconut (grated or dessicated)
Red chillis
Sambhar powder (optional)
Fenugreek seeds (a few)
Bengal gram ( a few)
Coriander seeds ( handful)
Butter/oil

Procedure:-

First cut the vegetables in to small pieces. Extract tamarind water from pulp or in case of tamarind paste mix it with water to a liquid consistency.

In a wok dry roast dessicated cocnuts, coriander seeds, red chillis, fenugreek seeds and a few bengal gram till the pleasant smell of the mix wafts the air. Now grind it to a smooth paste and keep aside.

Now in a pressure cooker add some butter/oil and stir fry the small onions ( sliced onions in case u don't get chinna vengayam). Now add the cut vegetables and stir them adding a pinch of turmeric powder. Now add the sambhar powder (optional--- can give it a miss since we mnake the paste of the spices anyways ) and stir it for some time. add the tamarind water and bring it to a boil. Now add the rice and tuvar dal( half the quantity of rice to give it the right edge) along with salt as per taste.
After adding the required water for the contents to cook (add more than the usual quantity for rice and dal to give it a very lucid conssitency), mix the paste of spices along with a dash of ghee/butter.

Now presure cook it with 2 whistles and let it simmer on a low flame for a few more minutes.

Bisi Bele Bath is ready !!!. Enjoy it with Raita and Papad.

I made a raita of finely cut onions mixed in curd along with salt and pepper powder.

The dish is sure to knock your day- lights off!!!
