Sambhar sadam as the bisi bele bath is called makes for a wholesome food in itself. Dal and rice with vegetables along with spices delights up the lunch.
Ingredients:-
Vegetables-------------- Small Onions (chinna vengayam), White pumpkin, yellow pumpkin, drumstick,radish, carrot, beans, brinjal.
Rice
Tuvar dal (1/2 of quantity of rice)
Tamarind water
Coconut (grated or dessicated)
Red chillis
Sambhar powder (optional)
Fenugreek seeds (a few)
Bengal gram ( a few)
Coriander seeds ( handful)
Butter/oil
Procedure:-
First cut the vegetables in to small pieces. Extract tamarind water from pulp or in case of tamarind paste mix it with water to a liquid consistency.
After adding the required water for the contents to cook (add more than the usual quantity for rice and dal to give it a very lucid conssitency), mix the paste of spices along with a dash of ghee/butter.
Now presure cook it with 2 whistles and let it simmer on a low flame for a few more minutes.
Bisi Bele Bath is ready !!!. Enjoy it with Raita and Papad.
I made a raita of finely cut onions mixed in curd along with salt and pepper powder.
The dish is sure to knock your day- lights off!!!
